01/15/2006: "Cincinnatis £100 Rebuy tournament (£10,000 GTD) Trip Report"

Last night I played in the £100 NL rebuy tournie at Cincinattis club in glasgow, It was the tournaments maiden voyage and must admit I was very impressed.

I believe they drew 86 runners for this tournament with 30 minute clocks a 6000 starting stack and blinds starting at 50/50.

For all you brits who don't stay too far away from glasgow I highly reccomend making the trip for this whats now to be a weekly event. Its gonna be at 7pm and is on Bridge Street in glasgow.. type CinCinnattis into google maps for directions. Also for those thinking it may be above their bankroll it plays pretty much like a Freezout there wasnt too many rebuys and with a deep stack and only 1hr of rebuys you could probably sit out for an hour and still have an M > 20 after the rebuys are done.

Anyway the tournament itself started not so great for me lost just under half my stack on the 4th hand of the tournament.(hands are from memory so may not be 100% accurate) Im in the BB and theres a limper in MP2, the SB "TillerMan" a high stakes NL player on stars and Ladbrokes raises my Big blind to 300 (6xBB raise) I look down at pocket 10's and reraise another 300 to find out where I am. MP1 folds SB call.

Pot 1250.

Flop: Jh 2h 4h

He checks and I fire out 700 he calls. ( the flat call here didnt seem like he was protecting a hand so im thinking he might have a couple of over cards AQ/AK with a h or maybe 99-77.)

turn 7c Pot 2650

He again checks and i fire out 1000. (In hindsight {wonderful thing aint it?} I shoulda let out the pot or pushed here. If im happy with my read why give another card) He calls

River Ad

He wakes up betting 1k I think for like 2 mins or so and make a crying call to see a black ace and the Kh.

Meh sad

Finish the rebuy period with 8300. There was one weak player at the table who I really wished i coulda caught cards against he made a great play after calling a PF raise with Q4 then calling an allin raise on the board of KQ7 he musta known the running Queens were coming for Quads!! smile

Our table breaks up and I move to a new table i sit down and some of the old regulars are sniggering and whispering to one another whilst looking at me.. It was possibly because I was the only one wearing sunglasses wink Again works wonders for the table image and not before long I've worked my 8k up to 22k ( a nice run of cards and a guy who slow played a flopped full house then letting the board quad up and me pushing with my bare ace helped smile )

Then the Matthew Milne blowup (MM blowup) occurred, blinds are 200-400 and It was folded to me on the button and I made it 1200 to go with A10o blinds of 200 - 400. Folded to the BB who calls. flop AQrag two clubs... he checks I bet 2k? i think and am raised 6k more leaving him with 3700 behind. Now this is a fold I asked a question I got an answer and I can fold here quite happy with 18-19k but for some reason i felt like i was being played back at like and went with my gut and i set him all in he calls and obviously has the goods with AQ. Now I've gone from one extreme when Im laying down QQ on a raggedy board in the WPT to not laying down any hands at all when its F**!in obviously im miles behind. Not much point dwelling on it now we all make mistakes and im gonna blame 6 hrs sleep a 9 hr shift and a 75 minute commute for this one.

I still had about 10k in chips but my game was off now not in a tilt kinda way more in a questioning my ability way. Got a few in the middle of the road hands never hit with them down to 5k tried to steal UTG 600-1200 antes with QhJh and was called by AK both live but were crushed soon as the flop came down AQA no more help and im gone.

I will definitely be making this trip once a month and urge anyone who reads this to come join me some great poker there. My hat and my oakleys off for Mr Dave Colclough who looks like he is doing his all to get this card club up and running.
