VICTORIA COREN JOINS TEAM POKERSTARS

UK’s ‘Princess of Poker’ signs for the world’s largest online poker site

London, UK – April 24th, 2008: PokerStars.com, the world’s largest online poker site, today announced the addition of Victoria Coren to Team PokerStars Pro. Ranked 10th in the Women’s All Time Money Winners List, Coren was the 2006 London European Poker Tour Champion and is the UK’s second most successful female player with lifetime tournament winnings of over $1.2 million.

Coren took up poker aged 16 and has been a regular cash game player at London’s Grosvenor Victoria Casino for a number of years. In EPT Season 3, she became one of the most popular champions ever when she claimed the fist prize of £500,000 at her home casino, ‘The Vic’.

Away from the baize, Victoria Coren is a well-known author, journalist and broadcaster. She writes weekly columns for The Observer and Guardian newspapers and has presented the BBC TV programme Balderdash and Piffle as well as BBC Radio 4’s Off the Page show. She also regularly appears as a guest on other radio comedy and discussion shows and has provided commentary for several televised poker tournaments.

Thomas Wyse, PokerStars.com UK Marketing Manager said: “Vicky is probably the most popular female poker player in the UK and certainly one of the most successful. Not only is she the first and only woman to win an EPT, but she has proved to be an enthusiastic and eloquent ambassador for poker in general.”

“I’m genuinely proud and happy to be an ambassador for PokerStars, I have played on the site for years,” said Coren. “And I’m especially delighted to help promote the EPT, which was already my favourite tournament series even before I won in London. The only difference is that I used to play it in cheaper shoes. Team PokerStars Pro, is a line up of some of the most exciting and memorable characters in modern poker, I’m really chuffed to be joining them.”

Victoria Coren will play the European Poker Tour and other tournaments alongside her fellow members of Team PokerStars Pro including world champions Chris Moneymaker, Greg Raymer and Joe Hachem, poker legends Barry Greenstein, Daniel Negreanu and a host of other EPT champions and elite players including Luca Pagano, Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier, Dario Mineri and Isabelle Mercier

Another Poker Career Milestone (First Vegas tournie win/chop)

Well I guess I could call it that.. I chopped the Sahara 11pm tournie $40 + 1 rebuy / 97 runners in what was a pretty well structured tournament.

It started off pretty quietly. I had to fold AQ to a huge overbet allin on a QT4 flop after raising first in PF I was told good fold and shown AQ.. I then lost a big chunk of change shoving allin over a shortstack in level 3 to lose my JJ to his 5h8h.. happens smile

A key hand for me was raising out the BB with QdKd approx 12000 chips ( started with 4000 rebuy was 4000) and getting two callers from a MP limper and the SB. Flop comes gin 9TJ rainbow <-- notice the keyword there.

I lead for 1500 ( pot was 1800 [100/200 blinds]) and old man shoves in 10k SB folds.. obv turbo call and he has 6Tcc.. He then said he had to go because of the flush draw (shrugs). anyway turn came a club (giving him his now less imaginary flush draw) and river was a blank..

I really can't remember any mid tournie play I had a decent stack for a good long time but nothing eventful happened.

Two tables left and others have caught up and im just a medium stack... I lose TT to A3 aipf to a stack sllighty shorter than mine when I had about 12 BB's left.. and am left about 18/18..

UTG i find 78cc and shove SB calls with QQ i flop 56Q two clubs... turn J river 4 and am then starting to get chipped up. Find AA and win another pot but still go into the final table as second shortest.

Final table comes and ive got like 5 big blinds left. I find KJo in MP and shove unfortunately i find two callers. They still have chips left and check down the 4KJ27 board and im laughing in treble up land.

Again it was one of those tournies where any key hands stuck out I made good use of my know medium-large stack and then we were 3 handed. We played for a good 2 hrs before decided to deal and chopped it $1030 each.

Probably a pretty dull report but hey i can look back on it with fond memories
